Priscilla

THE CEILING SEEMED to have life. The strangest figures were forming on it, giving the impression of something supernatural.

At least, that's what Priscilla thought, who for hours was lying in bed, unable to sleep.

The events of the last months, along with her friend's boyfriend arrest, Michael, had left a dent in her spirit.

Something inside her told her that it couldn't be a coincidence. Her past had taught her that coincidence didn't exist.

Ten years ago, her three best friends had been brutally murdered, in the lapse of short months, and the killer was never found.

The police, she was told later, suspected a man that met the criteria to commit those murders, but he was later arrested for other crimes, and the case was closed.

Priscilla never believed that. She knew the killer was looking for something, and she always thought, it was her he was looking for.

She suspected that the killer was still on the loose, not incarcerated as they thought.

Ten years before that, when she was fourteen, she was chased up the stairs, that dark March night, by the guy, that after murdering her friend Sheila and her younger sister, Minnie, had the audacity of whispering through the bathroom door that someday he would get her.

She fainted when the neighbors tore down the door to help her, and for hours, she was unconscious.

When she woke up, she stated that the person she had seen in the house, who allegedly killed her two friends, was the man that was in love with her.

When the police arrived at the suspect's house, they met with the impacting vision of the house, reduced to ashes, by the voracious fire that consumed it.

The firefighters found three bodies, or better say, three skeletons without skin, completely unrecognizable.

Forensic studies determined that they belonged to two adults and a young person, by their bone structure.

The authorities then decided that the guy, for unknown reasons, and in a fury attack, killed the two girls, and then went to his house, where he killed his parents, elaborating a scene to make everyone believe that he died with them, also.

Everything for what? To have time to prepare his revenge, with the most minimal details.

He could have killed her that night.

He didn't want to.

He wanted her to suffer, through the years that went by since then. Wear her away, hurt her where it hurt most, so when she was ready, or better yet, destroyed, take the life he had reclaimed, away.

She had told the Brockton police about her suspicions. They laughed in her face.

They had already investigated every possible angle, and they told her, mocking her, that the dead don't return from their tombs to murder flesh and bone people. She had to flee again, hiding in different towns, using her second name, Priscilla, instead of Margaret or Margie, and her mother's last name, Hassler, substituting Bergman, to try to outwit the psychopath that followed her in her nightmares and.

Until finally, tired of running, she took shelter in New Haven, a few years ago, working as an elementary school teacher.
